Heritage Happening Gala & Auction

Considering the unprecedented events surrounding COVID-19 and out of an abundance of caution, the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center Guild has canceled this year’s Heritage Happening Gala. While this is disappointing, we want to put the health and safety of others above all. Now for the good news: We are, like you, hopeful that next year will hold different circumstances and we can safely meet again. Please mark your calendars for May 15, 2021, for the next Heritage Happening.

The Guild thanks the many individuals, businesses, and sponsors who set out to partner with us for this year’s Heritage Happening, an event vital to the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center and its educational programming.  More than that, we gratefully acknowledge their commitment to protecting our Smoky Mountain heritage by instead becoming “Heritage Sponsors 2020” for the entire 2020 year.

Heritage Sponsors believe in the GSMHC mission of interpreting and sharing our Great Smoky Mountain history and culture, and offering exhibitions and programs for educational and cultural enrichment. They have partnered with us for the year because now is the time to protect those things we value most—especially our heritage.

Did you know that last year more than 3,400 area school children learned about Isaac Anderson (the founder and first president of Maryville College) by seeing first-hand his 218-year-old cabin, now relocated at the Center and restored to its former glory? His cabin is just one of more than a dozen structures at GSMHC that still echo stories of the Great Smoky Mountains and its people.

The transfer of our heritage happens through experiences just like this one.

Unfortunately, the Heritage Center is no exception to the economic challenges facing all businesses today, and cancelling the Gala has significantly impacted its financial well-being.  Will you join us in preserving this regional gem that impacts thousands?

Different sponsorship levels entitle you to numerous acknowledgment/VIP perks, as allowed by reopening guidance.  Additionally, your logo or name will be featured in the Mountain Echoes newsletter which reaches all 1700+ members, on a banner at all events until the next Heritage Happening, on the GSMHC website, in all e-mail blasts, and in all social media contacts.   If you would like to take a leadership role in protecting the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, please consider becoming a Heritage Sponsor 2020.  To learn more, contact Mug Akers at 865.207.7457 or [email protected]
